Pedro Carneiro est l’un des rares percussionnistes à mener
une carrière internationale de soliste en Europe, aux USA mais
aussi en Asie-Pacifique.
Agé de 29 ans, il a déjà créé plus
de 50 œuvres et se produit aux côtés de solistes
comme la claveciniste Elisabeth Chojnacka qui fut une des interprètes
de prédilection de Iannis Xenakis, le violoncelliste Jean-Guihen
Queyras, les pianistes Valentina Lisitsa ou Artur Pizarro, le Quatuor
de Shanghai dans des œuvres de Steve Reich, James Dillon, Emmanuel
Nunes ou Django Bates.
Après avoir étudié le piano, le violoncelle et
la trompette, il a étudié la percussion au Conservatório
Nacional de Lisbonne, s’est perfectionné avec Sylvio Gualda
puis à la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres auprès
de Leigh Stevens.
Il a gagné un grand nombre de prix internationaux (Prémio
Jovens Músicos, Prémio Maestro Silva Pereira, Park Lane
Young Artists Auditions, Médaille d’honneur de la Cité
de Setúbal, Distinction de l’Orfeão de Leiria et
un prix de la Hattori Foundation à Londres) et joue régulièrement
dans les festivals et sur les scènes suivantes : BBC Proms,
Rhythm Sticks Festival, Queen Elisabeth Hall et Purcell Room à
Londres, Sonorities Festival de Belfast, Macao International Music
Festival, Grant Park Music Festival à Chicago, New Zealand
International Festival of the Arts, Capital Theatre de Pékin…
en France on l’a vu récemment à Paris à
la Cité de la Musique et à Aix en Provence où
il a résidé plusieurs années.
Il vient de recevoir la distinction du Président de la République
portugaise pour le 30e anniversiare de la révolution des œillets
d’avril 1974.
Musicien complet, Pedro Carneiro est également chef d’orchestre
et compositeur (ses œuvres sont publiées par BIM en Suisse).
Après plusieurs disques et enregistrements radiophoniques (dont
un consacré à la percussion contemporaine, paru en 2003
chez deux-elles), Pedro a décidé de rejoindre Zig-Zag
territoires pour enregistrer Xenakis, un des compositeurs qui ont
jalonné son parcours d’interprète.

Pedro Carneiro is one of the few percussionists to pursue an international
solo career, in Europe, the USA and also the Asia Pacific region.
At just twenty-nine years of age, he has already premiered more than fifty
pieces and appeared alongside such soloists as the harpsichordist Elisabeth
Chojnacka, who was one of Iannis Xenakis’s favourite performers,
the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, the pianists Valentina Lisitsa and Arturo
Pizarro, and the Shanghai Quartet, in works by Steve Reich, James Dillon,
Emmanuel Nunes and Django Bates.
After studying piano, cello and trumpet, he studied percussion at the
Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon and with Sylvio Gualda then went
on to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Leigh Stevens.
He has won a large number of international prizes (Prémio Jovens
Músicos, Prémio Maestro Silva Pereira, Park Lane Young Artists
Auditions, the Medal of Honour of the City of Setúbal, the Distinction
of the Orfeão de Leiria, and an award from the Hattori Foundation
of London) and regularly performs at such festivals and venues as the
BBC Proms, Rhythm Sticks Festival, Queen Elisabeth Hall and Purcell Room
in London, the Sonorities Festival in Belfast, Macao International Music
Festival, Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, New Zealand International

I just received the Distinction from the President of the Portuguese Republic
on the 30th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution of 25th April 1974.
Pedro Carneiro is an all-round musician who is also active as a conductor
and composer (his works are published by BIM in Switzerland).
After making several commercial and radio recordings (including a CD of
contemporary percussion music released on the deux-elles label in 2003),
Pedro decided to join Zig-Zag territoires to record Xenakis, one of the
key composers in his performing career. |
