Midori
C. Seiler, the daughter of a Japanese pianist mother and a Bavarian pianist
father, spent her childhood and adolescence in Salzburg; she now lives
in Berlin. After studying with Helmut Zehetmair and Sandor Végh
in Salzburg, Adelina Oprean and Thomas Hengelbrock in Basel, David Takeno
in London, and Eberhard Feltz and Stephan Mai in Berlin, she completed
her musical training by working with Rene Jacobs on productions of Italian
Baroque operas. Since 1991 she has been a member of the Akademie für
Alte Musik Berlin, with which she has appeared as a soloist in many concerts
and recordings. Since 1999, Midori Seiler has been leader of Jos van Immerseel’s orchestra Anima Eterna. She teaches the violin at the Musikhochschule in Weimar and directs masterclasses. With the Akademie für Alte Musik, Midori Seiler has recorded for harmonia mundi France her own reconstruction for violin of Bach’s Concerto BWV 1052. In 2003 her recording of Mozart’s Viennese sonatas with Jos van Immerseel was awarded a ‘Diapason d’Or de l’annee’. On Anima Eterna’s most recent CD she performs the solo violin part in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade. Jos van Immerseel has now asked her to play two Mozart concertos in preparation for Mozart Year 2006. With Midori Seiler and Jos van Immerseel, we will record the sonatas for violin and fortepiano of Franz Schubert in June, and the complete Beethoven violin sonatas are scheduled for 2006–07. ‘Midori Seiler is a violinist with a poetic temperament, combining grace and delicacy, and her complicity with the orchestra is perfect’ resmusica, March 2005 |
