In
1641 Jacques Champion de Chambonnières brought together a group
of musicians to present public concerts, who were given the name of L'Assemblée
des Honnestes Curieux. In 1997, curiosity and honesty
were once more the presiding geniuses at the birth of a new ensemble made
up of four instrumentalists with a common desire to convey the emotion
contained in these pages from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Curiosity in their quest for repertoire, their wish to perform it with
all its strength and relevance intact; honesty in their lively, committed,
informed interpretation. This new Assemblée des Honnestes Curieux quickly showed its mettle: in 1998, at the third session of the Premio Bonporti international early music competition at Rovereto in Italy, it was awarded both the First Prize and the Special Prize of the Jury, whose president was Gustav Leonhardt. The musicians of LAssemblée have also distinguished themselves in solo performance. Amandine Beyer, selected as one of the laureates of the Juventus Foundation, won the 2001 edition of the Antonio Vivaldi Competition for Baroque violinists at Turin. In June 2000 Antoine Torunczyk was awarded First Prize in the Baroque oboe competition organised by the Halle Handel Festival in Germany, where the continuo accompaniment of Les Honnestes Curieux was also favourably noticed. In addition to their activities within the group, the members of our Curieuse Assemblée frequently perform with the foremost European ensembles, including Ensemble 415, Mala Punica, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Anima Eterna, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, the Freiburger Barockorchester, and Les Talens Lyriques. L'Assemblée des Honnestes Curieux is thus, with its four international prizes, one of the most highly awarded early music ensembles, and has already appeared in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain, in such celebrated festivals and venues as the Urbino Festival, Musica & Poesia in San Maurizio (Milan), the Ambronay Festival, the Théatre du Châtelet in Paris and the Are-More Festival in Vigo. The groups first CD, devoted to Pièces en trio by Marin Marais, was released on Opus 111 in 2001. Since 2003 it has recorded exclusively for Zig-Zag Territoires : GF HANDEL and a REBEL is planned. |
