| Elève de Scarlatti, disciple de Corelli, Francesco Geminiani était un violoniste imprévisible, " furibondo " comme disait Tartini : il a été l'un des premiers à développer la virtuosité violonistique. Francesco Geminiani transcrit l'op.V de Corelli, à l'initiative d'une société franc-maçonne anglaise, avec des intentions essentiellement didactiques : ramener le goût musical anglais sur la bonne voie, celle de la bonne et ancienne musique d'école romaine, dont Arcangelo Corelli était le plus grand représentant. L'enregistrement retentissant de Chiara Banchini de l'opus V de Corelli dans les années 90 (chez harmonia mundi) trouve ainsi un écho dans ce nouveau disque de l'Ensemble 415, fondé il y a vingt ans. " Pour moi, rejouer ces sonates avec l'orchestre a été une découverte de chaque instant. Geminiani les embellit tout en respectant le texte de son maître. Son intention est double : rendre hommage à Corelli et mettre son œuvre à la portée des violonistes amateurs (ce n'est pas le cas des sonates de l'opus V). Geminiani laisse la liberté au soliste d'embellir le texte. Nous avons opté pour des ornements qui s'approchent davantage de l'école de Geminiani que de celle de Corelli" Chiara Banchini L'ensemble 415 s'est renouvelé ; de nouveaux artistes dont leurs " interprétations autant respectueuses du texte et du style qu'originales et passionantes dans leur conception " (Le Progrès) sont le fruit de la filiation entre Chiara Banchini et ses " nouveaux Arcadiens ". |
A pupil of Scarlatti and disciple of Corelli, Francesco Geminiani was an unpredictable violinist, 'furibondo' as Tartini called him: he was one of the first to develop virtuoso violin technique. Geminiani transcribed Corelli's op.V, at the prompting of an English lodge of Freemasons, with intentions that were essentially didactic: to set English musical tastes back on the true path, that of the 'good old' music of the Roman school, of which Arcangelo Corelli was the foremost representative. Chiara Banchini's sensational recording of Corelli's op.V in the 1990s (on harmonia mundi) thus finds an echo in this new release with Ensemble 415, founded twenty years ago. 'For me, playing these sonatas again with the orchestra was a constant process of discovery. Geminiani embellishes them while still respecting his master's text. He has a double purpose: to pay tribute to Corelli, and to place his works within reach of amateur violinists (which is not the case with the original sonatas of opus V). Geminiani leaves the soloist freedom to embellish the text. We have opted for ornaments that come closer to the school of Geminiani himself than to that of Corelli. Among his many written works on music, Geminiani left us a magnificent Art of Playing on the Violin in which he goes into great detail about the ornamentation used by his school: we have followed him.' Chiara Banchini Ensemble 415 has undergone a renewal; the fusion between Chiara Banchini and her 'new Arcadians' has produced 'performances as respectful of text and style as they are original and exciting in conception' (Le Progrès). |
