Marc-Antoine Charpentier Ô Maria, psaumes et motets Ensemble Correspondances Direction Sébastien Daucé
This project is the result of one year of researches and collectiv work on sound and colors guided by the compositions of Marc-Antoine Charpentier. If one identifies its religeous music generally as harmonic achievement, it is probably underevaluating what makes its originality among French composers at the end of the XVIIe century. His stay in Roma for 3 years influenced Charpentier by the powerful influence of italian rhetoric. Reading his scores, this aspect of his inspiration become obvious and to play his music having this in mind gives a special expressive way to his musics.
The beautiful Supplicatio pro defunctis, pray to the Virgin for the deads is a moving piece : built on a strophic form concluded by « O Maria ! », the intense aura, the richness of the harmonic writting, the beauty of the text make of this piece one of the most powerful pieces of Charpentier. The other major piece of the program is the motet Madgalena lugens, written on the pattern of roman sacred stories whose sensuality goes beyond all other french composer of the time. Sébastien Daucé
Sébastien Daucé belongs to the new french baroque generation. Together with harmony and organ studies in Rennes, Sebastien Daucé becomes passionate of XVII & XVIIIe centuries. After studies on harpsichord at Angers conservatory with Françoise Marmin and studies of basso continuo with Frédéric Michel & Laure Morabito at Boulogne conservatory, he follows studies from 2002 to 2007 with Yves Rechsteiner & Françoise Lengellé at Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, where he is awarded with his price of basso continuo in june 2009. He played with Bernard Tétu (Stuttgart Kammerorchester | Solistes de Lyon), Kenneth Weiss (Didon et Énée de Purcell, Madrigaux de Monteverdi), Toni Ramon (Maîtrise de Radio France), Gabriel Garrido (Ercole Amante of Cavalli, at the Académie d’opéra baroque d’Ambronay, and recently for the recording of Cavalli, Gli Amori d’Apollo e Dafne). He worked also with Emmanuel Mandrin, with whom he founded the ensemble Correspondances, in residence at l’Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes since 2005.
