Denis Goldfeld

Denis Goldfeld

Born in 1974, Denis Goldfeld is one of those young prodigies the former Soviet Union was so good at producing.
After early studies with his grandfather Boris Goldfeld, then with Yuri Volgin at the Music School of Chelyabinsk (Siberia), he won the Grand Prix of the National Violin Competition of Russia. He continued to study in Chelyabinsk until 1990.
At the age of sixteen, he was invited to the Musikhochschule of Lübeck by Professor Zakhar Bron. Denis Goldfeld moved there on his own, with his brother Vadim and his parents following some years later.
He has won three first prizes in international competitions: the Wieniawski Competition in Lublin, Poland (1991), and Bayreuth and Dortmund in Germany, in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
In 1996, he received the prize of the Fondation Samson François in Paris.
From 1995 to 1998, Isaac Stern had considerable influence on his musical development. A CD with his brother Vadim at the piano was released by Sony in 1997.
Since then, Denis Goldfeld has given recitals in Europe, the USA (Carnegie Hall), and Israel. He has appeared with the following orchestras: Moscow Philharmonic, Novosibirsk Philharmonic, St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Soloists, North Holland Philharmonic, Orchestre van het Oosten, Norddeutsche Philharmonie, Thüringen Symphony Orchestra, Südwestfälische Philharmonie, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Jena Philharmonic, and (in France) the Orchestre de Besançon.
In April 2003, Denis Goldfeld was a last-minute replacement for Shlomo Mintz as soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He was immediately invited back for September 2004.
As an enthusiastic chamber musician, Denis Goldfeld has been appointed artistic director of the Hasselburg International Chamber Music Festival (Germany).
We were attracted by his talent, his generous yet rigorous playing, and his musical commitment.
We wish to give the public a chance to discover this young violinist in the works of Ysaÿe, which represent the true quintessence of the art of the violin at the turn of the 20th century.

PRESS REVIEW

in Classica 9R :
"Denis Goldfeld makes with this recital his venue in great players' court. If he knows to develop all his qualities, no doubt that he will be part of the best violinists of his generation" Xavier Rey - Octobre 2005
in Diapason 5 diapasons
A passionnate lyrism, a beautiful virtuosity, a sound both generous and stirring, and a sincere inspiration reveals in this record a great talented artist. If his outstanding energy and his permanent risk taking in solo sonatas are proofs of a virtuoso of high rank, subtility of his inspiration in the pieces with piano shows a sensitivity as captivating." Jean-Michel Molkou
in Monde de la musique : ****
"He supports polyphonic creativeness of first sonata with outstanding braveness but also with perfect intelligence of the text" Costin Cazaban
in Crescendo : Joker (Belgique)
Denis Goldfeld's interpretation of the solo sonatas is outstanding in all points. More classic that Thomas Zehetmair - who gave few months ago an allucinated vision, Denis Goldfeld develops the luxury of a beautiful sound. His virtuosity is impressing but always guided by expression's demands. Jacques Tchamkerten
